Centaurium is well known to herbalists as a ‘stomach bitter’ – one of the classes of herbs with bitter taste and used to aid digestion. For these herbs, it is important to taste the bitterness – and because of this, it is better to use herbs such as Centaurium as a tincture taken 5 minutes before meals.

Stomach bitters such as Centaurium are used to improve digestion. They do so by increasing both the secretion of digestive enzymes and gut motility. These actions, mediated via the hormone gastrin, enhance the breakdown of food which then helps to relieve symptoms of indigestion such as nausea, flatulence, fullness and gastric discomfort. Alfred Vogel knew that the most effective way in which to benefit from Centaurium, known to herbalists as a stomach bitter was to take it in liquid form. The organically grown plants used in this remedy are harvested just as they come into flower to create a sharp-tasting tincture which Alfred Vogel recommended.

• Made from Centaurium umbellatum (Centaury)
• Stomach bitter
• Fresh extract of organically grown herbs

Adults: 10 - 15 drops 3 times daily before meals, in a little water.
Children (2-12 years): 1 drop per year of age twice daily in a little water.
